INTERNET - HOW TO INSTALL MERAKI CELLULAR GATEWAY MERAK CELLULAR GATEWAY ON ROOF What is the Meraki Cellular Gateway? It is NOT a WAP (Wireless Access Point); it will not provide any Wi-Fi coverage for phones or tablets. This is a cellular modem. This provides a backup internet connection. If primary internet isn’t installed, it is the lifeline for the store. Why does it need to be placed on the roof? Signal strength and quality. For best performance the device needs to be able to have the least number of materials around it and as clear line of sight to the cell tower. This means the roof is the best location. We have already attempted lower and less conspicuous placement locations which have only resulted in internet speed issues that are borderline offline in quality. Before IT ARRIVES What needs to be up on the roof? 2 WHITE Cat5e network cables. If there is only one box of white ethernet available to run, use a GREY. How do we want it up there? Using the chaseway in the tower, run it up through there and out the tower onto the roof. The other end will join all the other network cables in the IT closet. How much cable needs to be up on the roof? After I.T. arrives An IT Technician will connect the cellular gateway and test positions for the device to get the best signal. After the best location has been determined, the device will need to be mounted. Mounting Rules: No closer than 3’ from a section of metal siding or roof.
