INTERNET - HOW TO TEST TMO BACKUP INTERNET
PURPOSE
This document explains how to test a store’s internet connection via TMO.
PROCEDURE
1. Go to the computer rack and locate the SonicWall and the TMO (usually located on the top shelf). Make sure the TMO is in the top USB slot of the SonicWall.
o Below is a picture of the TMO.
2. Look at the back of the SonicWall and locate the Cat 5 cable (usually a yellow cable) that should be connected to either X1 or X3. Remember which port it is in and unplug it for about 10 minutes.
3. Go to the manager’s PC and open the Command Prompt app by searching “Command Prompt” in the search bar by the Windows icon.
4. In the Command Prompt window, type “ping 8.8.8.8 -t” and press “Enter”.
5. This will generate “Request timed out” error messages. After getting the error messages, let the computer load for about 10 minutes. The TMO should start up automatically and you will get a message similar to the one below.
6. After seeing this screen, the store is now running under the TMO (backup) internet.
7. Go back to the computer rack and plug the Cat 5 cable back into either X1 or X3 (whichever port it was connected to in step 2).
8. Return to the manager’s PC and make sure you are still getting a reply in the command prompt. If you are, perform a Google search to confirm the store has internet (e.g., Google “Mister Car Wash”).
o If the reply in the command prompt still shows “Request timed out”, make sure the Cat 5 cable is plugged into the correct SonicWall port. If this doesn’t fix the issue, contact Mister IT.
9. After confirming the store has internet, close the Command Prompt app.
