PURPOSE
This procedure outlines the proper method of installing NetSpot on a Windows computer and recording a Wi-Fi Heat Map using NetSpot.
PROCESS
Installing Netspot
Gathering Store Photo and Measurements
- Navigate to Google Maps
- Search for the address of the store.
- In the bottom left corner, click “Layers” to switch to the Satellite view and verify that the store building is showing up on the Satellite view.
- If the store building is not showing up on the Satellite view, search for your store using Ariel view on Bing Maps.
- Once a satellite image of your store has been found, zoom in so it fills most of the computer screen.
- Press the Windows Key, the Shift Key, and the S key together. Your screen should dim partially.
- Click and drag a box around your store and its parking lot. This will take a screenshot of what was highlighted and save it to your clipboard.
- When the context window in the bottom right corner pops up with the image of the store, click on the image.
- In the “Snip & Sketch” app that opens, click the floppy disk icon on the top left corner, and save the image.
- Back on the maps website used for the screenshot, right click the map, and select “Measure Distance”.
- Measure any two easily identifiable points at the store.
- Make note of the measurement at the bottom, this will be needed in the next steps.
Create the Netspot Survey
- Open the Netspot app and click the “Survey” button on the top ribbon.
- In the Survey window, click “Start a new survey”.

- Click the “Active Scan” slider to turn off the scan.
- Save the scan to your computer.
