Troubleshoot Kiosk bill dispenser functionality
PURPOSE
The kiosk bill dispenser is not dispensing bills. The bill dispenser’s default bill settings have been altered due to too many wrinkled, crumpled, or ripped bills passing through the dispenser. The bill dispenser’s security sensors have been tripped (possibly by exposing the sensors to sunlight or someone striking or jostling the dispenser/kiosk), causing the dispenser to lose its default bill settings. There is a mechanical error with the bill dispenser.
PROCESS
Restoring Default Bill Dispenser
- Locate the bill dispenser’s reject tray. Pull the reject tray out of the dispenser and remove any wrinkled or crumpled bills. Be sure to deposit these bills. Slide the reject tray back into the bill dispenser and make sure the $1 and $5 bill cassettes are inserted into the dispenser. Slide the bill dispenser back into the kiosk.

-
NOTE: Before proceeding to test/reset bill dispenser settings, make sure the dispenser is pushed back into the kiosk on its sliding rails and the kiosk door is closed.
- Doing so will prevent the daylight sensors from triggering and giving you errors when trying to write sensor values.
- Swipe your card to access the kiosk’s desktop.
- From the desktop, double-click “Bill Dispenser Test” (the icon may also be named “Test Point”).
- If the icon is not located on the desktop, you will find it in c:\Pegasus Software.
- When the software opens, you will be prompted to select a mechanism.
- The default mechanism selected will be F-50. Use the dropdown to change the mechanism to F-53 and click “OK”.
- The software will try to connect the bill dispenser to its last successful configuration.
- If it does, you will be brought to the main menu.
- If you see a connection error instead, refer to “Connection Error Troubleshooting” below.
- From the main Test Point menu, select “Mechanism Settings” (it is the topmost selection).
- The Mechanical Settings interface appears.
- Assuming both cassettes are inserted in the bill dispenser, there should be values listed for “Position 1” and “Position 2”.
- If the values are all 0, they have been reset by the bill dispenser.
- Select “Default Settings”.
- If the Long, Short, and Thickness values change, a large number of wrinkled, crumpled, or ripped bills have been dispensed from the kiosk.
- Select “Write Settings”.
- You should see a popup that states, “Parameters were written successfully”.
- Click “OK” to close the popup, then exit out of the Test Point software and reopen the kiosk software.
- The bill dispenser should now work correctly.
- If it does not, proceed to “Hardware Troubleshooting” below.
Connection Error Troubleshooting
- If you get a connection error when the Test Point software is trying to connect with the bill dispenser:
- Pull the dispenser out on its rails and inspect its right side.
- Locate the data and power cords and the LED display.
- The data and power cords should be securely connected.
- If necessary, unplug the data and power cords and plug them back in.
- The LED should display 0 (the letter F or any number other than 0 indicates a problem)
- Inspect the Hub 56 board on the left side of the kiosk.
- Make sure the power cord (red box) and data cable (purple box) are both connected.
- Check the LED on the right side of the bill dispenser to see if it is displaying 0. If it is not, check to
- Unplug the bill acceptor data cable from COM port 7 and plug the bill dispenser data cable into COM port 7.
- Next, plug the bill dispenser data cable into COM port 6
-
NOTE: The bill dispenser software cannot read COM ports 9, 10, and 11, so do not plug the data cable into those ports
- Don’t forget to plug the bill acceptor data cable back into COM port 7 and the bill dispenser data cable back into COM port 8.
- If the LED display does not change to 0 while changing COM ports, proceed to check the wire ends.
- Unplug the data and power cables from the right side of the bill dispenser.
- Inspect the individual wires of the connection ends to see if any of them have somehow been cut.
- Assuming you do not find any cut wires, plug the cables back in to the dispenser.
- After following the above steps, attempt to have Test Point connect to the bill dispenser again.
- If you still receive a connection error, contact Mister IT
Hardware Troubleshooting
- If writing default bill dispenser settings does not restore bill dispenser functionality:
- Access the bill dispenser test software following the steps outlined above in “Restoring Default Bill Dispenser Settings”.
- Select “Start a Test”.
- Select “Dispense”, set both positions to 0, and select “Start Test”.
- Repeat the process for “Test Dispense” (immediately below “Dispense”).
- Unplug and plug back in the data and power cords.
- Close and reopen the Test Point software, being sure to protect the dispenser from exposure to sunlight.
- Repeat “Restoring Default Bill Dispenser Settings” from above.
- The bill dispenser should write settings successfully.
- It if does not, repeat the process outlined above up to three times.
- If kiosk bill dispenser functionality is not restored after completing the steps, contact Mister IT
